Juggling...

Who feels as if there isn't enough hours in the day?

*raises hand*

I've set myself some lofty goals for 2013... a few being that I wanted to publish COFFEE & COCKPITS in early March and OCEAN SLAYS in late April. I'm still on track to achieving this, but my personal life is taking a bit of a hit. I go to work, come home and immerse myself in 'lap-top' world.

I don't know how many of you know this, but I also work for a small publisher - CURIOSITY QUILLS and coordinate their production team. I have a flashy title as Production Manager and love to be part of author's journey's from editing, cover design and ultimately assigning release dates. It's great fun, but it also takes me away from writing. My house rabbit isn't friends with me currently as she doesn't get her allotment of cuddles anymore, and I'm looking forward to some downtime.... but then again -- we are writers and there IS no downtime.

On holiday -- writing
Driving -- thinking about writing
Sleeping -- thinking about writing
Working -- you got it -- thinking about writing

Yep, never ending.

Does anyone have a tip on how to balance deadlines, work, extra work, and family life better?  Would love to hear from you!

  2. Yes! Take a break every once in awhile and don't write/think about writing! Do something crazy that makes your brain focus on something else (like sky diving/jet skiing/pie eating) and take hubby with you. :) You're still going to accomplish amazing things, even if you take a break every once in awhile.

  4. Agree with taking a break. Even a short break in the day to recharge.

  7. *raises hand* I would like to lobby the UN for more hours in our days.

As for a way to balance? There really isn't one, but I will give you one piece of advice: when you are on a particular task, be all there. If it's family time, don't be thinking about your novel, immerse yourself in family time. If it's novel time, really try to put away all of the "I have to buy more yogurt at the store today" thoughts. If you can do that, you'll be more efficient, which is almost as good as having more time.

Also, schedule your time off. seriously.
