Reasons I Fell For The Funny Fat Friend!

OMG I have waited for this day since the moment I read this amazing book. I've been very lucky to snag an interview with the amazing Becca Ann, and included is the info on her AWESOMESAUCE book and giveaway! (Oh, and also a small snippet of a review from yours truly. And I don't normally do reviews... so... well, enjoy it! :))

It’s stupid to fall for your brother’s ex. It’s even worse to enlist another’s help to win the ex over. But Brody is desperate and Hayley, his partner in American Sign Language, is more than willing to lend him a few tips.

She’s the school’s matchmaker,’ and with her bizarre and positive personality, Brody finds her easy to talk to, even about the most awkward situations. Hayley’s tips seem to be working, but as Brody learns more about his matchmaker, he starts finding reasons to spend time with her, and not the girl he thought he was in love with.

But Hayley isn’t ready to fall for anyone. Labeled the “Funny Fat Friend” within her group, her self image makes it impossible for Brody to share his feelings without Hayley shrugging it off as a joke.

Convincing her Brody can, and did, fall for the “Funny Fat Friend” turns out to be harder than simply falling in love.

My Review on Reasons:

FIVE glowing stars. *****
Now, I'm not a big YA reader. I tend to like a bit of a darker book, with a touch of naughtiness, but Becca Ann does what most YA books don't. She makes you believe in the characters and their need to be with each other on such a deep level you feel dragged along and never want it to end. I can safely say I love Brody to death, and I would turn lesbian for Hayles. She was just so AWESOME. Together they made epic love history and it's a book I could read again and again and still beg for the characters to fall in love.

Interview with Becca:

1. Why did you write from a guy's POV? Was it hard to get into their headspace?
I CONSTANTLY worried he sounded like a girl, lol. But I had to write this book from his POV. I needed the reader to fall for the funny fat friend WITH him. If I was in Hayley’s head, I was afraid she would come off unlikable because of her insecurities, yet she hid those away when she was with Brody. In Brody’s POV, we don’t see those often. We see all of her. So it made more sense to write in his ;)

2. What drives your characters?

Oh my, tough questions! I like to believe Brody is driven by his heart, always. And when his heart says he loves this girl, even though it’s gonna be really hard to get her, he goes for it anyway.

3. Can you share your favorite part of the book? (50-100 lines or so)

I can’t share my favorite part without spoiling it, lol. But I will share a wittle segment ;)

Sexiness should be based on a scale. And there are certain things that make the points rise or fall. Whooping my butt at a guy’s game—not just whooping, but completely wiping me out and rubbing my face in it—yeah, about a million sexy points.

Hayles has broken the sexiness scale.

And my ego, just a little bit. But who cares right now?

“Shit, man.” Tanner says, tossing his remote down. “She’s good.”

There’s the flinch but it’s gone before I think anyone else notices it. She stands up and victory dances with the controller.“That’s right, baby! I warned you, but now you have to eat all that smack talk you gave me!”

Dani starts laughing like crazy and gets up to dance with her. They bump hips and shake their asses as they throw out scores and how girls can ‘so beat boys’ in video games. I’m pretty sure Tanner and I have lost all concentration. I can’t take my eyes off them. It may be a minute before I can stand.

After they finish dancing—thank all that is holy ‘cause I’m not sure how much of that I could’ve taken before I had to leave the room—Hayles plops herself next to me. Right next to me. Her warm body presses against my arm and her heavy breath tickles my face as she gives me a big smile.

I have no idea how stupid I look. I think I’m gawking.

“Don’t be so sad, Brody. Maybe next time I’ll let you live longer than ten minutes.”
“Uh, yeah, uh huh.” Oh hell, my tongue won’t work.

Dani giggles. “You broke his brain! I think that deserves another victory dance.”

Yeah, can’t handle another one of those. I shoot upright and mumble something about havin’ to piss and get outta there.
